Porta potty rental in San Mateo County, CA

Quick answer

Pottyline rents portable toilets in San Mateo County from $189 per month with weekly service, $195 per event, and luxury restroom trailers from $2,495 per weekend. Redwood City (20 miles) and San Mateo (22 miles) are inside our 25-mile included zone across the San Mateo Bridge; Daly City at 28 miles adds about $11 each way.

Delivery across San Mateo County

The San Mateo-Hayward Bridge (CA-92) starts a few miles from our yard, which is why two of the three Peninsula cities we serve are inside the 25-mile included zone even though they are across the bay.

Redwood City20IncludedCA-92 San Mateo Bridge, US-101 south
San Mateo22IncludedCA-92 San Mateo Bridge, US-101 or El Camino Real
Daly City28+3 mi (≈ $11 each way)CA-92, I-280 north

The bridge is the whole story. From the Hayward toll plaza it is 7 miles of causeway to Foster City, then US-101 south to Redwood City or north to San Mateo and Burlingame. Daly City sits at the top of the Peninsula, 28 miles via I-280, and pays $3.50 per extra mile each way. Foster City, Belmont, San Carlos, Burlingame and Menlo Park fall between 18 and 24 miles and price automatically in the calculator; coastside ZIPs (Half Moon Bay, Pacifica) run farther over CA-92 or CA-1 and usually carry a mileage charge.

We run the Peninsula as one truck day, so Redwood City and San Mateo orders placed the same week typically land the same morning. Order by 2 PM for guaranteed next-day delivery ($95); off-hours placement is $150.

County rules that apply

  • Hauler registration. Chemical-toilet haulers register with the county health officer under Health and Safety Code 117400; in San Mateo County that is Environmental Health Services, which also runs the temporary-event program. Pottyline is a registered chemical-toilet hauler; insurance certificates are available on request.
  • Where the waste goes. Peninsula loads go to Silicon Valley Clean Water in Redwood Shores, the regional plant for Redwood City, San Carlos, Belmont and West Bay Sanitary District, which permits septic and grease haulers to discharge at the plant. Daly City-area loads can also run to EBMUD in Oakland.
  • Events with food. The county's temporary events guidelines require 1 toilet and 1 handwash sink per 15 food workers, toilets within 200 feet of all booths, and the coordinator packet filed 14 calendar days ahead (21 days for 20-plus vendors); forms are on the county's temporary event forms page.
  • County parks. Coyote Point Recreation Area and other county parks require a Special Event Permit for anything beyond a picnic-site reservation; the County Parks Reservations Desk is (650) 363-4021.
  • Streets. No permit on private property; public right-of-way needs each city's encroachment permit.

Construction in San Mateo County

Redwood City's downtown keeps adding mid-rise housing and office around the Caltrain station, with lab and biotech buildings in Redwood Shores and along Seaport Boulevard. San Mateo's Bay Meadows and Hillsdale areas are in a long build-out of housing and office, and the El Camino Real corridor has steady mixed-use infill. Daly City has housing at Serramonte and Westlake plus BART-adjacent projects. Up and down US-101, South San Francisco's biotech campuses and Millbrae's station-area projects keep Peninsula crews busy.

Cal/OSHA worked example for a 25-person crew (22 men, 3 women). 8 CCR 1526 requires 1 toilet per 20 employees of each sex: 2 for the men, 1 for the women. 1527 requires 1 handwash station per 20 workers: 2. AB 521 directs Cal/OSHA to require a designated single-user unit for workers who identify as female or nonbinary (verify current adoption status with the OSHSB).

Why San Mateo County crews and planners choose Pottyline

  • The bridge works in your favor. Redwood City and San Mateo are 20 and 22 miles from Hayward via CA-92, so delivery is included where other East Bay vendors charge a Peninsula fee.
  • All-in price online: $189 per month or $195 per event, tolls and tax included, against Bay Area market rates of $150 to $230 plus delivery.
  • The correct Cal/OSHA ratio, 1 per 20 per sex, with the AB 521 women's unit in the $479 pack.
  • Proof of service by text after every visit: photo, GPS, timestamp, exportable PDF for the GC or the Event Center operations office.
  • Permitted disposal at Silicon Valley Clean Water, the county's regional plant, so service trucks are not crossing the bay with a full tank.
  • Owner answers the phone in English, Spanish or Chinese; 2 PM cutoff for next-day delivery, Monday to Saturday.
