Which trailer for how many guests
A restroom trailer, also sold as a bathroom trailer, toilet trailer or portable restroom trailer, is a towed unit with porcelain flush toilets, running-water sinks, climate control and separate entrances. We rent five, and the right one comes down to guest count, hours and whether anyone needs a wheelchair-accessible stall. The capacities below use the 1-per-75-guests rule for a 5-hour seated wedding; the wedding sizing guide walks through the math.
| Trailer | Guests | Size | Stalls | Accessible | Typical booking |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2-stall luxury trailer | Up to 150 | 12' × 8' | 2 private stalls | No | Weddings to 150, VIP area, film talent |
| 4-stall luxury trailer | Up to 300 | 18' × 8' | Women's side 2, men's side 1 + urinals | No | Weddings and corporate events 150–300 |
| 8-stall luxury trailer | Up to 600 | 28' × 8.5' | 8 | No | Festivals, galas, large weddings |
| ADA+2 luxury trailer | Up to 200 | 20' × 8.5' | 2 + 1 wheelchair-accessible | Yes, ramp | Public events, agencies, mixed-ability guest lists |
| 8-stall shower trailer | 8 private shower stalls | 28' × 8.5' | Shower, changing bench, lockable door each | No | Disaster relief, film basecamp, festivals, long construction |
Two adjustments matter. With a bar, plan 20% more capacity: a 160-guest wedding with cocktails is a 4-stall booking, not a 2-stall. When the public is invited, California requires 5% of restrooms (minimum 1) to be accessible under CBC 11B-213 and the 2010 ADA Standards, so a non-accessible trailer gets paired with an ADA porta potty at $325 or you book the ADA+2 trailer instead. The calculator applies both rules to any guest count.
Prices
Every trailer price includes delivery, leveling, a full fresh-water tank, stocking, pickup and tax within 25 miles of Hayward. A weekend runs Friday delivery to Monday pickup; a month is 28 days with one service visit per week. From May through October, trailers carry a 15% peak-season surcharge; single porta potties do not.

Add-ons that come up on most trailer orders: attendant $45 per hour with a 4-hour minimum ($270 for a 6-hour reception), mid-event pump-out $125 per visit, 250-gallon holding tank $149 per month for long-term sites, ADA porta potty $325 per event, handwash station $99 per event at the catering line. Delivery beyond 25 miles is $3.50 per mile each way on the extra miles: San Jose adds about $11, San Francisco about $18, Napa about $88. A September weekend for the 4-stall is $3,789 with the peak surcharge; the same trailer in March is $3,295.
For reference, luxury trailers nationally rent for $2,500 to $2,800 per weekend for a 2-stall and $4,500 to $5,000 for an 8-stall, with peak surcharges of 15 to 30%. The full add-on list is on the pricing page.

Power, water and placement
Trailers are the one product where the site decides whether the booking works. We ask for a pin and two photos at booking, one of the pad and one of the approach, and we tell you before delivery day if something has to move.
- Pad. Level ground the size of the trailer plus about 3 feet on each entry side for steps and door swing: a 2-stall needs roughly 12' × 14' in use, an 8-stall about 28' × 15'. Asphalt, concrete, compacted gravel or firm dry lawn all work; we level on blocks before the water goes on.
- Approach. A straight run of about 40 feet for the tow vehicle, 12 feet wide, with no branches below about 12 feet. This is what rules out most residential driveways.
- Power. Toilet trailers run on dedicated 20-amp, 120-volt circuits within 100 feet, each on its own breaker; the 4-stall uses three. Shared circuits with catering equipment are the most common cause of a climate-control trip. Where the venue cannot supply them, the 7 kW generator at $750 covers a weekend on 12 hours of fuel per tank.
- Shower trailer power and water. The shower trailer needs a 50A/240V hookup or two 7 kW generators (a 10 kW on request). Fresh water is 300 gallons on board with a heater; grey water goes to a 250-gallon holding tank or a sewer connection, which we arrange at booking.
- Water for toilet trailers. None for a weekend. For monthly use, a garden hose within 100 feet plus a sewer cleanout or two holding tanks.
- Public right-of-way. A trailer in a street or parking lane needs the city's permit: San Francisco's Street Space permit limits equipment to one-third of the roadway width; Oakland's Obstruction Permit requires No Parking signs 72 hours ahead. Private venues need nothing.
Weddings, festivals, film, long-term
Weddings. The 2-stall and 4-stall trailers cover almost every Bay Area wedding, from a 90-guest vineyard ceremony in Livermore to a 300-guest reception at a Peninsula estate. We orient the entrances away from dining and toward a lit path, and for 200 or more guests we recommend an attendant for the 6-hour reception. The events page covers timelines and layout.
Festivals and public events. The 8-stall trailer serves a sponsor or VIP area for up to 600 guests while the public cluster is built from standard and ADA units; a 2,000-person street fair typically needs 40 units in the cluster plus the trailer. County environmental health asks for a sanitation plan when food is served, and the trailer's sinks count toward it. The San Jose and Oakland city pages list the permit offices.
Film and TV. Crew expectations for climate control, running water and mirrors are trailer-level, and talent needs separate facilities. A 4-stall at basecamp covers a 40- to 60-person crew; the shower trailer joins it on multi-day location shoots and overnight builds. Off-hours delivery before 6 AM is a flat $150, which fits a 5 AM call. See the film page.
Long-term and emergency. At $4,900 to $9,900 per 28 days with weekly service, a trailer serves a project-office compound on a 12-month build or a county emergency shelter. The shower trailer at $8,900 per month is the disaster-relief and long-construction option, available through our partner fleet. Public agencies get 24/7 emergency dispatch, PO billing, Net-30 and an exportable PDF service log with a photo and GPS stamp for every visit.
Trailer vs luxury porta potty
"Fancy porta potty" and "luxury portable restroom" cover two different products: a single luxury flushing porta potty, also called a deluxe unit, and a towed trailer. The table shows what each $295 or $2,495 buys.
| Feature | Standard portable toilet | Luxury flushing porta potty | 2-stall luxury trailer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Event price | $195 | $295 | $2,495 per weekend |
| Monthly price | $189 | $289 | $4,900 |
| Toilet | Non-flush, 70-gal tank | Foot-pump flush, 60-gal tank + 15-gal fresh | Porcelain flush |
| Sink | Sanitizer dispenser | Interior sink, cold water, mirror | Vanity, running water, full mirror |
| Climate and light | Vent, translucent roof | Solar light | Climate control, LED |
| Footprint | 44" × 48" | 47" × 48" | 12' × 8' plus steps |
| Power | None | None | 20 A circuits or generator |
| Capacity | About 50 guests per 4 hours | About 50 guests per 4 hours | Up to 150 guests |
| Best for | Public clusters, job sites | Guest-facing single units, backyard parties | Weddings, VIP areas, talent |
The break-even is around 100 guests. A 150-guest, 4-hour reception with a bar sizes to 4 units: 3 luxury flushing units plus 1 ADA unit, $1,210 all-in; the 2-stall trailer is $2,495 and gives porcelain, running water and climate control for the extra $1,285. Below 100 guests, or where the pad and power are not there, the single units are the right call, and we will say so on the phone. Prices by ZIP for every option are on the portable restrooms near me page.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to rent a restroom trailer?
$2,495 to $4,695 for a Friday-to-Monday weekend in the Bay Area: 2-stall $2,495, 4-stall $3,295, ADA+2 $3,495, 8-stall $4,695, 8-stall shower trailer $3,495. Monthly rates run $4,900 to $9,900 with weekly service. Prices include delivery, leveling, stock, pickup and tax within 25 miles of Hayward; May through October adds 15%.
What size bathroom trailer do I need for my wedding?
A 2-stall trailer covers weddings up to 150 guests, a 4-stall up to 300 and an 8-stall up to 600, using the 1-per-75-guests rule for a 5-hour seated wedding. Add a bar and plan 20% more capacity, so a 160-guest wedding with cocktails is a 4-stall booking. The ADA+2 trailer serves up to 200 and includes a wheelchair-accessible stall.
Does a restroom trailer need power and water?
Power yes, water usually no. Toilet trailers run on dedicated 20-amp, 120-volt circuits within 100 feet, or on our 7 kW generator at $750 per weekend. The fresh tank is filled before delivery and lasts a weekend at the rated guest count. The shower trailer is the exception: it needs a 50A/240V hookup or two generators, and a grey-water tank or sewer connection.
Is a restroom trailer better than luxury porta potties?
Above about 100 guests, yes, if the venue has a level pad and power. A 2-stall trailer at $2,495 gives porcelain flush toilets, running-water sinks and climate control; four luxury flushing porta potties at $295 each cost $1,180 and offer a foot-pump flush and a cold interior sink. Below 100 guests on a tight budget, the single units win.
What does the shower trailer include?
8 private stalls, each with a shower, a changing bench and a lockable door, in a 28 by 8.5 foot trailer with a 300-gallon fresh-water tank and an on-board water heater. It costs $3,495 per weekend or $8,900 per month, available through our partner fleet. It needs a 50A/240V hookup or two 7 kW generators, plus a 250-gallon holding tank or sewer connection for grey water.
How far ahead should I book a wedding restroom trailer?
Book 4 to 8 weeks ahead for a May-to-October Saturday, when peak-season demand is highest and the 15% surcharge applies. Off-season weekends are usually available with 1 to 2 weeks of notice. Cancellation is free more than 48 hours before delivery and 25% inside 48 hours, so reserving early carries little risk.
