How much does a porta potty rental cost in the Bay Area?

Most rental companies won't put a number on their website. We will — here are our actual 2026 prices, what drives them up or down, and what the rest of the market charges.

Quick answer

A standard porta potty costs $189 per month on a job site (weekly service included) or $195 for an event up to 3 days. ADA units run $269–$325, luxury restroom trailers $2,495–$4,695 per weekend. Those prices include delivery, pickup and tax inside our 25-mile East Bay zone.

Construction porta potty rental cost (monthly)

Job-site rentals are billed in 28-day cycles and include one service visit per week: pump-out, sanitizing, restocking toilet paper and sanitizer. Bay Area market rates for a standard unit run $150–$230 per month; San Francisco sites average about 30% above the national average because of permits and traffic.

Our monthly prices, all-in:

Event porta potty rental cost (daily / weekend)

Event pricing covers delivery, a fully stocked unit for up to 3 days, and pickup. Bay Area market rates for a standard event unit are $160–$230; ADA units $290–$370. Weddings and festivals usually add handwash stations and, increasingly, a luxury trailer instead of standard units.

Luxury restroom trailer rental cost

Restroom trailers have flushing porcelain toilets, running-water sinks, climate control and lighting. Nationally, 2-stall trailers run $2,500–$2,800 for a weekend and 8-stall units $4,500–$5,000. In the Bay Area, peak wedding season (May–October) adds 15–30%. We publish our uplift: +15%, and only on trailers.

What makes a porta potty rental more expensive

Five things move the price more than anything else:

  • Distance: beyond the included zone, companies charge $3–$4 per mile. Napa or Santa Rosa from the East Bay adds $50–$175.
  • Service frequency: a second weekly visit adds about $45 per unit per week. Crews over 10 people usually need it.
  • Unit type: flushing, ADA and high-rise units cost 40–75% more than a standard unit.
  • Season: trailers cost 15–30% more from May to October. Standard units don't change.
  • Permits: units on a San Francisco sidewalk need a Street Space permit (city fee, not ours). Private property needs nothing.

How many units do you actually need?

Construction: Cal/OSHA requires one toilet and one handwash station per 20 workers (8 CCR 1526/1527), and AB 521 directs a designated women's unit on sites with 5+ workers. A 15-person crew = 1 standard + 1 women's + 1 handwash — our compliance pack, $479/month.

Events: plan one unit per 50–75 guests for a 4–5 hour event, 20% more if alcohol is served, plus ADA at 5% (minimum one) when the public is invited. A 150-guest wedding with a bar = 5 standard + 1 ADA + 2 handwash, or one 2-stall luxury trailer.

How to pay less

Honest advice, even though we're the vendor:

  • Rent monthly, not weekly — a 28-day rate is cheaper than four weekly rates everywhere in the industry.
  • Bundle: a compliance pack saves ~$40/month versus separate units.
  • Pick a vendor inside 25 miles of your site. Delivery fees are where quotes diverge.
  • Book trailers 2–3 months ahead for May–October weekends; last-minute availability is where you get price-gouged.
  • Skip the damage waiver on fenced, locked sites. Take it for public events.

Frequently asked

How much is a porta potty rental per day?

Most companies don't rent by the day — the minimum is an event rate (up to 3 days) or a 28-day cycle. Our event rate for a standard unit is $195; spread over 3 days that's $65/day.

How much does it cost to rent a porta potty for a month in San Jose?

Market rates in San Jose are $153–$230 for a standard unit with weekly service. Ours is $189 plus a small per-mile fee since San Jose is just past our 25-mile zone — about $200 all-in.

Is delivery included in porta potty rental prices?

With us, yes, inside 25 miles of Hayward. Many competitors quote the unit price and add delivery, fuel surcharges and tax later — always ask for the all-in number.

How much is a luxury restroom trailer for a wedding?

A 2-stall luxury trailer is $2,495 for a Friday-to-Monday weekend (up to 150 guests); 4-stall $3,295; 8-stall $4,695. Add 15% in May–October. Generator $750 if the venue has no power.

Do I need a permit for a porta potty?

Not on private property or a fenced job site. On a public sidewalk or street you need a city encroachment permit — in San Francisco it's the Public Works Street Space permit.
