How many wedding restrooms for how many guests

A seated wedding runs about 5 hours from ceremony to last dance, and guests use the restroom in waves after the ceremony, dinner and toasts. We size at 1 stall per 75 guests for those 5 hours, add 20% when there is a bar, and round up. The wedding sizing guide shows the full math, and the porta potty calculator applies it to your exact count.

A wedding is a private event, so the 5% accessible rule in the 2010 ADA Standards does not legally apply, but if a grandparent uses a walker or a guest uses a wheelchair, add an ADA unit at $325 or book the ADA+2 trailer. And place one standard or luxury unit near the catering tent for the 10 to 20 staff, so the crew is not using the guest trailer during dinner service.

Restroom trailer vs. luxury porta potty

"Wedding portable toilets" covers two very different products. A luxury flushing porta potty, also called a deluxe unit, is a single 47" × 48" cabin with a foot-pump flush, an interior sink, a mirror and a solar light. A restroom trailer is a towed building with porcelain toilets, running-water vanities, climate control and separate women's and men's sides. The restroom trailers page compares all five trailers; this table is the wedding version.

The break-even is around 100 guests. Below that, two luxury flushing units at $590 do the job in a side yard where no trailer will fit. Above it, the trailer is what guests remember, and a 150-guest wedding gets porcelain, running water and climate control for $2,495 against $1,210 for four single units.

Venue logistics: vineyards, estates, parks and backyards

Vineyards and ranches. Wine-country venues in Napa, Sonoma County and the Livermore valley usually have a level gravel pad near the crush area but no 20-amp circuits within 100 feet of it. That is what the 7 kW generator at $750 per weekend is for: 62 decibels, 12 hours of fuel per tank, connected by our driver and refueled by the attendant on long receptions. Napa is about 50 miles from our Hayward yard, so delivery adds about $88 in mileage; Livermore is inside the 25-mile zone and adds nothing.

Private estates and backyards. No permit is needed on private property. The constraint is the approach: a trailer needs a straight run of about 40 feet, 12 feet wide, with nothing overhead below 12 feet, and a level spot roughly 12' × 14' for a 2-stall. Send us a pin and two photos at booking and we confirm the spot before delivery day; where the gate is narrower than 12 feet, luxury flushing units roll through any 36-inch opening instead.

Public parks and beaches. Park weddings need the agency's permit, and the permit usually asks whether portable toilets are coming. The East Bay Regional Park District requires a special event application 120 days ahead for new events and 90 days for repeat events, with the full packet due 75 days out. San Francisco Recreation and Parks takes special event applications at least 60 days ahead with an $85 review fee, and the form asks directly whether the event has portable toilets. We supply the unit count and placement sketch for the application.

Caterers. County environmental health expects a toilet and a handwash station within 200 feet of a temporary food-prep area; in Alameda County, food that is sold falls under the Temporary Events Sponsor Application. For a private catered wedding, a handwash station at $99 beside the catering tent covers the practice and keeps the crew out of the guest trailer.

Timeline: book, deliver, pick up

  • 2 to 3 months before (May–October dates). Peak-season Saturdays book first and carry the 15% trailer surcharge. Off-season, 2 weeks is usually enough. Booking is online 24/7 and the quote prints the trailer, the ADA count and the all-in total.
  • 1 week before. Confirm the pad and the power source with the venue coordinator; we call the venue ourselves if you prefer.
  • The day before. Trailer delivery takes about 60 minutes: back in, level, connect power, fill, test every fixture. Friday delivery for a Saturday wedding costs nothing extra; a weekend delivery slot is $150.
  • Wedding day. Nothing to do. For 200 or more guests, the attendant arrives 1 hour before the ceremony.
  • The day after. Pickup on Sunday or Monday for a Saturday wedding, inside the weekend rate. Every delivery and pickup is photographed, GPS-stamped and texted to you or your planner.

Cancellation is free more than 48 hours before delivery and 25% inside 48 hours.

Two worked examples: a 120-guest September vineyard wedding in Livermore is a 2-stall trailer at $2,869 plus a generator at $750, $3,619 all-in. A 280-guest June estate wedding with a bar is a 4-stall trailer at $3,789, one ADA unit at $325 and a 6-hour attendant at $270, $4,384.

Attendant and mid-event service

An attendant is the difference between a trailer guests notice and one they do not. At $45 per hour with a 4-hour minimum, one person restocks, wipes vanities every 20 minutes at peak, watches tank levels and manages the generator. We recommend one for 200 or more guests, any open bar and any reception past 6 hours; below that, a trailer stocked on Friday runs unattended through Sunday.

For a wedding weekend that stretches into a Sunday brunch, a mid-event pump-out and restock is $125 per visit, scheduled before guests arrive. The events page covers the broader logistics for corporate events and galas, and festival-scale clusters have their own festival restroom page.

Frequently asked questions

How many portable toilets do I need for a wedding?

One stall per 75 guests for a 5-hour seated wedding, plus 20% when there is a bar. A 100-guest wedding needs 2 stalls, 150 guests need 2 without a bar or 3 with one, and 300 guests need 4 to 5. A 2-stall trailer covers up to 150, a 4-stall up to 300. Add 1 accessible unit if any guest uses a wheelchair or walker.

How much does a wedding restroom trailer cost?

$2,495 per weekend for a 2-stall luxury trailer, $3,295 for a 4-stall, $3,495 for the ADA+2 and $4,695 for an 8-stall, Friday delivery to Monday pickup, within 25 miles of Hayward. May through October adds 15% on trailers, so a June 2-stall is $2,869. A luxury flushing porta potty is $295 per event with no seasonal surcharge.

Is a luxury porta potty good enough for a wedding?

Yes for up to about 100 guests. The luxury flushing unit at $295 has a foot-pump flush toilet, an interior sink with cold water, a mirror and a solar light, and sits on a 47 by 48 inch footprint that fits where a trailer cannot. Above 100 guests, or when the budget allows, the 2-stall trailer at $2,495 adds porcelain, running water and climate control.

Does a wedding restroom trailer need power at the venue?

Yes. A 2-stall or 4-stall trailer runs on two or three dedicated 20-amp, 120-volt circuits within 100 feet; water is not needed because the fresh tank is filled before delivery. Vineyards, ranches and parks without outlets add our 7 kW generator at $750 per weekend, 62 decibels, with 12 hours of fuel per tank, placed and connected by the driver.

When should I book wedding restrooms?

Book 2 to 3 months ahead for a Saturday between May and October, when trailers sell out first and the 15% peak surcharge applies. Off-season weekends usually need 2 weeks. We deliver the day before the wedding and pick up the day after, and cancellation is free more than 48 hours before delivery, so booking early carries no risk.

Do I need an attendant for a wedding restroom trailer?

For 200 or more guests, an open bar or a reception longer than 6 hours, yes. The attendant costs $45 per hour with a 4-hour minimum ($180) and restocks paper and soap, wipes surfaces every 20 minutes at peak, and manages the water and waste levels. For weddings under 150 guests, the trailer arrives stocked for the whole weekend and runs unattended.
